Artwork Appreciation

Yiyan means black rocks. Snow on black rocks, how spectacular it is!

Li Keran very modestly introduced the process of creating this painting, saying that he had no experience in painting snow, although he knew that it should be left blank, but still follow the custom of painting more and more black. Finally, had to mix some white powder to remedy. The work will be named "Yiyan Flying Snow", or a self-deprecating intention. The name of the fast also used the three words "know the lack of fast". In his later years, Li Keran called himself a "white-haired schoolboy" and named his room "Sense of Absence", which indeed shows his spirit of modesty and self-reflection, but on the other hand, Li Keran was confident that he had created the Li School of landscape and represented Eastern art (see "Li Keran on Art"). Both modesty and self-confidence are important to an artist, and they complement each other.

This work is indeed heavily inked, leaving little white space, but the snow is still very strong. The composition still features a large mountain on the front, a village at the bottom, and a pine forest and a path in the near distance. The steepness of the mountains and the overlapping peaks are in harmony with the cold air that fills the canvas.
