Culture of Two Han Dynasties

Culture of Two Han Dynasties

Xuzhou, the hometown of Liu Bang, GAOzu Emperor of Han Dyansty, was also where he achieved success. After April, 206 B.C. when Xiang Yu entitled Liu Bang as King Han, and four years of Chu-Han War, Liu Bang ascended to the throne in Dingtao in October, 202 B.C., who first had Luoyang as his capital and then moved to Chang’an. At that time, the powerful Han Dynasty echoed each other with the ancient Rome Empire in the west and became the most powerful empire in the world.

During the 400 years of the two Han Dynasties, there were in all 13 Kings of Chu and 5 Kings of Pengcheng in Xuzhou, so there should be 18 royal tombs. In fact, there were more than it. In the Eastern Han, there was a Xiapi Kingdom subordinate to the present Xuzhou Administration Area, where there were four Kings of Xiapi in succession. These royal tombs were as splendid as underground palaces, where the treasures kings appreciated during their lifetime and savings of national treasury were buried. Therefore, Xuzhou is especially abundant in historical and cultural relics, especially the three wonders of ancient cultural relics, namely, Han Tombs, Han Terracotta Warriors and Han relief stone sculptures, among which Han Tombs rank first. Thus, since ancient times, there is a saying goes among the people, “Xi’an represents the culture of Qin abd Tang Dynasties, Beijing represents the culture of Ming and Qing Dynasties and Xuzhou represents the culture of two Han Dynasties.”

Therefore, traveling to Xuzhou, you should first personally appreciate the long history of cultures of two Han Dynasties and witness the abundant historical legacies left by the kings of two Han Dynasties.
