Xuzhou City, previously known as Peng City, got its name from a person Peng Zu. Legend has it that Emperor Yao in the four thousand years ago conferred the title of Monarch for Da Peng State on Peng Zu and set the Peng City as the capital. Peng Zu, originator of Chinese cooking, health care and Qigong, was remarkably long-lived with more than eight hundred years. Therefore, many places of interest in Xuzhou including Pengzu Garden, Pengzu Ancestral Hall and Pengzu Well still exist in memory of him. In terms of the local diet, Xuzhou, in accordance with the style and flavor of ancestors, distinguishes itself from others in making and producing.
