Han Culture Plaza

Description

Wide as about 90 meters from south to north, the plaza covers an area of 18,000 square meters, adopting the regular and solemn pattern of medial axis and symmetry. Its spatial orientation has east-west as the trend, along which such scenic spots as entrance plaza, Sinan (the ancient compass), chronicle of events in two Han Dynasties, History and Culture Gallery and Piyong Square are arranged in sequence. In the end stands the bronze statue of Liu Bang, Gaozu Emperor of Han. All of these constitute a complete spatial sequence. Imitative bricks in Han style serve as the main materials of the pavements of the plaza and patterns of clouds which are commonly seen in paintings of Han Dynasty serve as the decoration patterns. Around the chronicle of events in two Han Dynasties there are some water scenery designed. Usage of water not only creates contrast with stone materials (rigid and flexible) but serves as the means to connect all the scenic spots in the plaza. What’s more, water body is possessed with a more unique function in the design of a garden plaza, from which tourists can feel the magnificence of “the vast rivers embodied in a small pond” and appreciate the charm of the long history of the culture in two Han Dynasties. The plaza design can be compared to a section of three-dimensional and spatialized Han Ode, which naturally presents the Han style and the ancient charm through the four chapters, opening, developing, changing and concluding, in measured tones.
