In early February 1949, according to the instructions of the Central Military Commission, the General Front Committee of the Huaihai Campaign was changed to the General Front Committee of the Crossing of the Yangtze River Campaign, leading the reorganized Second and Third Field to continue the crossing of the Yangtze River, with Deng Xiaoping still serving as the Secretary of the General Front Committee. By mid February, the General Front Committee of the Crossing of the Yangtze River Campaign, the Command Headquarters of the Third Field Army, the East China Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the East China Military Region gathered in the north to discuss the plan for crossing the Yangtze River.
On January 15, 1949, the headquarters of the East China Field Army moved from Caiwa Village in Xiao County (now Shengli Village in Dingli Town) to Haojia Courtyard in Beiwang Village, southwest of Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. At that time, the courtyard was well preserved, with numerous houses available for use, and its location was hidden, close to the Longhai and Jinpu lines, making it an ideal place for battle command.
The former site of the General Front Committee of the Crossing of the Yangtze River Campaign is located in Beiwang Village, Hanwang Town, consisting of three ancient residential buildings, also known as the "Hao Family Courtyard". In 1949, the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries such as Liu Bocheng, Deng Xiaoping, Chen Yi, and Su Yu strategized here, studied and formulated plans for the Crossing of the Yangtze River Campaign, and won a decisive victory of thousands of miles, shocking both China and abroad.
