Description

In the winter of 1965, the Nanjing Museum cleaned up this Han portrait stone tomb. In 1994, the Xuzhou Museum conducted an investigation into the ancestral halls and walls of Han tombs. The overall structure consists of three parts: a temple, a tomb wall, and a tomb chamber. The ancestral hall is in front, and the tomb chamber is at the back. Both are on a basic vertical axis, and the materials used are locally produced bluestone.

This tomb is the most well preserved Eastern Han Dynasty temple portrait stone tomb in the Xuzhou area, and both the temple and tomb chamber are engraved with portraits. The tomb has a large scale, rich content of stone carvings and portraits, exquisite and superb carving techniques, which have extremely important reference value for studying the social system of the Han Dynasty, especially exploring the politics, economy, and culture of the Han Dynasty in Xuzhou area.
The tomb adopts the construction method of starting from a flat ground, with a large mound of soil on top. The overall structure of the tomb consists of a temple and a tomb chamber. The tomb chamber is divided into front, middle, and back chambers. The middle chamber is accompanied by left and right ear chambers, while the back chamber is rectangular and separated by stone slabs, serving as a place for placing utensils in the joint burial of spouses. The entire tomb chamber is covered in a stacked and astringent style.
The tomb portraits were carved in the ancestral hall, as well as in the front, middle, and back rooms. The content of the screen is very rich, covering various aspects such as social life, myths and legends, fairyland auspiciousness, historical stories, etc. Such as reflecting real-life travel by car and horse, paying respects to feasts, participating in games at the Expo, and performing various dance and music performances; Reflecting mythological legends such as the Jade Rabbit pounding medicine, the Eastern Prince, the Western Queen Mother, Fuxi, and N ü wa; Reflecting auspicious themes such as rare birds and beasts, auspicious trees and golden crops, etc., it reproduces the real social life of the Han Dynasty and people's religious, philosophical, and aesthetic consciousness at that time.
