Xuzhou Fengxian Chengzi Academy

Description

Chengzi Academy is located in Huanglou Street, Liangzhai Town, Feng County, Xuzhou City, adjacent to the Zhuangyuan Stele Garden. It was an academic institution during the Northern Song Dynasty and was the place where the brothers Cheng Hao (1032-1085) and Cheng Yi (1033-1107) gave lectures. Er Cheng was a famous philosopher and educator in ancient China. Their theory was inherited and developed by Zhu Xi of the Southern Song Dynasty, known as the "Cheng Zhu School" and had a significant impact on Confucianism after the Song Dynasty. Chengziyuan is the oldest college in the Xuzhou area. At that time, Cheng Hao was giving lectures here, and the local academic atmosphere was strong. The government established the "Chengzi Academy" here.

The rebuilt Chengzi Academy covers an area of over ten acres with a building area of approximately 2170 square meters. It is divided into several major buildings, including a lecture hall, a traditional Chinese culture museum, a scripture collection building, and a large ancient calligrapher's stele corridor. On the left side of the academy is the Xuzhou Zhuangyuan Stele Garden, which houses the famous stele "Seven Public Tombs Table" written by Xuzhou Zhuangyuan Li Pan during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty and the ancient stele of the Ming Dynasty. It is a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.
